Explore the Avon Gorge

Sunday 23rd September saw eleven boats and 62 rowers leave City of Bristol Rowing Club, pass through the Cumberland Basin and row out into the Avon Gorge, passing under the iconic Clifton Suspension bridge.  A variety of boats joined in the activity, including 2 pilot gigs from Bristol Gig Club, three Explore Rowing boats from Stratford Upon Avon Boat Club, two eights from Avon County Rowing Club and a number of fours, quads and a triple from City of Bristol Rowing Club.

The event was supported by WESSFED safety boats and Bristol Harbour Masters office.  Many thanks to them for their good spirits and friendly banter.

The event took a total of around three hours, with the fastest boats reaching the end of the gorge at the Avonmouth Bridge, a round trip of about 15 miles.

Despite some drizzle, everyone was determined to enjoy the beautiful scenery and we hope to repeat the activity in 2013.
