At www.london2paris2london.com we have just purchased a Carbon Fibre replica of a Cornish Pilot Gig named Tiger. She is equipped with carbon Macon oars and moves through the water VERY fast rowed as sweep oars.
We intend using her and other replica Cornish Pilot gigs to row from London to Paris & Return from 2012. In the meantime though...
There is another exciting Challenge set by Roger Gould (two times Atlantic Ocean rower, 1997 & 2011). The 'Roger Gould Tidal Thames Challenge' will be run for the first time at the end of July 2011. That is to row the gig from Richmond in Surrey to North Foreland on the north Kent coast in the shortest time possible, and then another such Challenge to row her back again.
A monthly prize will be given for the fastest time in either direction each year. Then annually another two trophies will be awarded to the fastest team for either direction. These awards will be kept by the team with the fastest time throughout history, until their time is eventually beaten by another crew.
Crews will consist of 12 - 14 members. 6 rowers and one cox ideally, while the other 6/7 rest on our accompanying Safety Boats. Our suggestion is to change crews every two hours - but that will be up to you to decide!
We provide food and hot drinks for you as part of the entry fee. All you need to do is get to and from the start lines and bring a sleeping bag plus a sense of humour with you!
Why not look at our website under "Other Events" to find out how little it costs to come along. Get yourself a team together, and raise money for your charity of choice while having a testing time!! Visit us at www.london2paris2london.com
The photo and video below are of a team of novice rowers taking part in the Tudor Pull in 2011 rowing Tiger from Hampton Court Palace to The Tower of London. The video was produced on a hand held Panasonic digital camera as a 'bit of fun' by Roger Gould.
