Seven rowers from Twickenham Rowing Club are taking on the marathon challenge of rowing 75 kilometres from Henley-Upon-Thames to Twickenham, in aid of the club’s building fund.

Laura Baker, Tarquin Barrett, Margot Cooper, James Frater, Alexander Hitchinson, Vicky Owen and Mal Thornton will start their marathon row on Saturday 31st July after competing at Henley Town and Visitors Regatta, and after an overnight stop in Bray will complete the journey arriving back in Twickenham sometime around 4.45pm on Sunday 1st August.

Their hard work and blistered hands will all be worthwhile as all the money they raise will be put towards the development of the boathouse. The first phase of the development will see the installation of a lift and new entrance which for the first time will make all levels of the club fully accessible to the local community.

You can sponsor them by visiting their online fundraising page at www.justgiving.com/twrc-marathon-row. You can pay by credit or debit card, and the money will go directly to the Rowing Club. Where supporters are UK taxpayers, they will automatically receive 28% extra in Gift Aid, which makes Justgiving the most efficient way of sponsoring the squad.

We completed our row and are all roughly in one piece, thanks to the wonders of seat pads, electrical tape and Jelly Babies. We've also managed to raise nearly £900 towards the building fund of the development of Boat House.

The row was beautiful and actually lots and lots of fun. Also a thank you to all the rowing clubs and rowers we encountered along our way, who although thought we were all mad, we very extremely welcoming offering navigation advice and offers of refreshments. Special mention to Eton Excelsiour who helped us out after one our boats took the senic route into a jetty, Staines BC who let us have lunch at their boat house and offered to open up the bar for us, and Walton RC and Molesey BC who let us use their facilities.

Photos to follow.

Thanks Rich - it used to be an annual Twickenham RC event, so we've decided to reinstate it to raise some funds for the boathouse development. If it works, we may return it to annual event and open it up to other clubs, so watch this space!
