A single scull long distance race over 9km held in Bern, Switzerland and hosted by Bern Rowing Club.
The past BKW-Armada Cup races have been hugely popular with competitors ranging from young, old and even world class rowers and Olympians such as Mahe Drysdale. The next BKW-Armadacup on 30th of October, 2010 will be run in the same manner as previous years.
The categories
There are 10 categories as follows:
1st Category Seniors A, men over 22 years
2nd Category Seniors B, men 19-21 years
3rd Category Juniors A. men 17-18 years
4th Category Juniors B, men 15-16 years
5th Category Masters AB, men 27-42 years
6th Category Masters C, men 43-49 years
7th Category Masters DE, men 50 years and older
8th Category Seniors AB, women 19 years and older
9th Category Juniors A, women 17-18 years
10th Categoriy Juniors B, women 15-16 years
The start
The race begins with the infamous mass start!
Start time: 14:30 (all competitors together)
The journey to the start takes at least 55 minutes. Competitors must ensure that boats are boated in time. A plan for boating will be available in the clubhouse, and a copy of this will be distributed with confirmation of registration.
The allocation and distribution of start numbers will be made by the organizer, numbers can be collected in the regatta secretariat (open from 08.30 h). The allocation of start places is based upon the rankings in last year's ARMADA-Cup. Participants in this year's World Cup will receive preferential treatment, and will be allocated a start position in one of the front rows. Participants who register after the closing date might be given a start number at the rear of the field .
Additional information:
- Shirts in club colours must be worn. Numbers must be visible on the back of the shirt, and the number on the bow must be suitably attached.
- All Competitors must be at the Regatta area by 10:30 at the latest. Rowers are to row from the boathouse of the Rowing Club of Bern to the starting zone, and should line up according to their start number.
- Women and Men start together (Ladies on the port side of the field), 25 boats start in one row, the next row follows 2 lengths behind.
- The line up in the starting zone will be managed under clear instructions of the referees, who are responsible for an exact line up as well as giving the start signal for time-keeping.
- Competitors should remain in position until the signal is given.
- Everyone must take their place in starting number order.
- Participants who start the race in the wrong starting row will receive 3 penalty minutes or be disqualified.
