Maidenhead Rowing Club run a series of adult(18+) Learn To Row courses aimed at those who have never rowed before and fancy giving it a go.
The courses are run by experienced coaches and several are British Rowing accredited.
Each course comprises 8 x 2 hour sessions held at the Club on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6.30pm - 8.30pm
* Introduction evening: Your first visit to the club will be an introduction to the sport of rowing and to the club, outlining how it is run and the facilities on offer. This session will start at 6.30pm at the Maidenhead Rowing Club and will give you the opportunity to get to know the coaches and your fellow course attendees. Please come changed in sports kit, as there will be an introduction to technique followed by a short spin on the river.
* The Course: We will teach you the basics of sculling (an oar in each hand) and sweep oar rowing (1 oar for both hands) to a determined level in wide and stable boats.Depending on river conditions you will also be able to go out in a single scull. We aim to start each session promptly at 6.30pm to make the most of the light, but understand if you are a little late due to traffic or having to work late.
* Post Learn To Row: At the end of the course, full membership may be offered to join the adult recreational squad. Further coaching and supervised outings will be available with the opportunity of progressing, should you wish, to competitive rowing subject to meeting appropriate competitive squad criteria.
* How to Apply: The cost of the course is £158.00 per person which includes membership of the Club for the duration of the course. You also get 3 months registration in British Rowing with one edition of their magazine "Regatta and Rowing". £75 of the L2R fee is then able to be offset against full Club membership for the remainder of the first year.
