Travel to Newcastle
By Rail: Direct rail services run from various UK cities to Newcastle Central Station, situated in the heart of the Newcastle city centre. East Coast operate the East Coast mainline from London King’s Cross to Newcastle and the CrossCountry route links the region with Scotland, the Midlands and the South West.
By Coach: National Express travels to over 1,200 UK and European destinations and operates service to and from all major airports. Services run directly into Newcastle-upon-Tyne coach station, as well as several other stops in surrounding areas.
By Road: The A1 passes through NewcastleGateshead linking the area to London, the South, Scotland and major routes across the country. The A69 links west to Carlisle, the Lake District and, via the M6, to the South and West of England.
By Air: Newcastle International Airport is only 8 miles from the city centre and it is served by many airlines providing direct links from international and UK airports.
By Sea: The International Passenger Terminal at North Shields is 8 miles from the city centre and is the main sea link with Europe for the North of England. There are daily sailings from Amsterdam with DFDS Seaways.
Travel to Newburn (Start)
By Bike: From Newcastle city centre, head down to the quayside where you will intercept Hadrian's Cycleway, National Cycle Network Route 72. Turn west and follow the Cycleway until it intercepts Newburn Bridge Road. Turn left across the bridge and then right for Tyne United and carry on 100 metres for Tyne RC. For more information and access to maps, log onto Cycle Newcastle. From the city centre, the route is approximately 6.2miles long.
By Public Transport: From Newcastle city centre, take the 22 bus service from Newcastle Central Station towards Throckley. You'll want to jump off at Newburn High Street and walk down Station Road to Newburn Bridge Road. Go across the bridge and then right for Tyne United; for Tyne RC turn right just before the bridge and carry on 100 metres. The journey should take approximately 30 to 45 minutes from the city centre. Check timetables at www.nexus.org.uk.
By Taxi: There are numerous taxi firms that service NewcastleGateshead and there are taxi ranks at Newcastle Central Station.
By Car: From Newcastle city centre, take the A695 Scotswood Road heading west. Follow this road through a number of lights till you reach two roundabouts at Scotswood Bridge. Go straight on at both, staying on the north bank of the river, following signs for Newburn A6085. You pass Lemington and just before reaching Newburn village proper, veer left and down onto Station Road and take the first left at the lights just down the hill (both signed for Ryton). This is Newburn Bridge Road. For Tyne United go across the bridge and it's on the right For Tyne RC turn right almost immediately after turning on Newburn Bridge Road and just before the bridge and carry on 100 metres past the pub, sharp right, up a little hill and sharp left into the car park.

Travel to Tynemouth (Finish)
By Bike: From either Newburn or the city centre, link onto the National Cycle Network Route 72, which will take you all the way to Tynemouth. The route mostlyl follows the River Tyne but does deviate from the waters' edge several times. From Newburn, you would cover approximately 24 miles. By Car: From the city centre, head onto the A167(M) towards Jedburgh/Morpeth. Take the ramp to A1058/Jesmond/B1600 and continue straight onto A1058 and follow this for 7.5mi. At Beach Road, take the 3rd exit onto The Broadway/A193. Continue onto Front St until you reach the T-section and take a right hand turn onto Pier Road. Tynemouth Rowing Club is on the left and public parking is available further up the road on the left.
