Simple but lovely route upriver.

Plenty of places to boat from- numerous rowing clubs along the Tideway- and plenty of places to stop along the way. Locks are manned all through the summer until around 8pm and the lock-keepers are very helpful, especially if you haven't ventured into a lock before!
Make sure you are clear on the navigation rules of the Tideway if starting from Putney: http://www.pla.co.uk/pdfs/maritime/THE_ROWING_CODE.pdf

And really nice rowing clubs (and pubs) along the way to stop at. We did some of this stretch last bank holiday, going from Twickenham to Chertsey.

That's a nice route - we'd love to see post-row photos!
